Official Rules
 
  1. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. The contest is free to enter and open to residents of any of the eight counties of Western New York (i.e. Erie, Niagara, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Alleghany, Genesee, Orleans, Wyoming) who are 21 years of age or older, excluding employees of The Buffalo News, DeSanto Travel, Holiday Valley, associated sponsors and agencies, their assignees, licensees, and members of their immediate families living in the same household.

     

  2. THE PRIZE:  One grand prize will be awarded at the end of the contest.  The prize consists of a 5 nights / 6 days, complete package tour to Las Vegas for two (2) (midweek/Sun-Fri.).  Trip includes accommodations at an MGM/Mirage resort hotel, round trip airport transfers, round trip airfare and applicable tax.  Travel must be completed by 12/18/14.  Travel arrangements will be administrated by De Santo Travel, LLC, and Funjet Vacations. 8186 Woodview Ct, Williamsville, NY 14221.  Reservations will be made in accordance with your 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices of travel dates listed.  Holiday black out dates are 5 days prior and 5 days after each major holiday.  Major holidays are: New Years, March 1-31 for Spring Break, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. All travel is subject to availability.  A waiver and release agreement is required to sign, date and return the Funjet vacations bill of rights with your prize letter.  Once a reservation has been made absolutely no changes, extensions or cancellations are permitted.  This includes name changes and extensions to the dates travel needs to be completed by.  No refunds will be made.

     

    Two runners-up will receive a One winner will receive a one night/two day midweek golf package at Inn at Holiday Valley for two in Ellicottville, NY.  The package includes one (1) weekday night lodging  (non-holiday) at the Inn at Holiday Valley for two (2), continental breakfast, One (1) day of golf for 18 holes with a cart.  Lodging Sunday night through Thursday, golf Sunday after 2:00 pm through Thursday.  Reservations are required for lodging and tee times.  Winner will call the Inn at Holiday Valley directly to make their reservation.  A credit card guarantee is required when making a reservation.  Any cancellations must be made with 14 or more days  notice or your card will be charged the value of the package.  Some blackout dates may apply. Package must be used by 10/30/14. Winner MUST present certificate upon check in.   Winner will need to claim their prize at the Buffalo News.  Some restrictions may apply.   Should any winner be unable to use the prize as awarded, no cash substitution or pass substitutions will be made. Winner will be selected at random from all eligible entries submitted. Chances of winning will be determined by the total number of entries received.  We are not responsible for lost, stolen or expired certificates.

     

  3. THE CONTEST: The contest will start on August 18 and end on September 30 at Noon.

     

  4. HOW PRIZES ARE AWARDED & ACCEPTED The winner will be selected by random drawing from all entries received during the contest period. Prizes must be accepted as awarded.  Should any winner be unable to use the prize as awarded, no substitution, whether in cash or otherwise, will be made. The prize is non-assignable and nontransferable.  The winner is solely responsible for reporting and payment of any taxes on prizes.  Contest organizers (The Buffalo News /DeSanto Travel/Holiday Valley & sponsors) reserve the right to award a prize of equal or greater value in the event of unavailability. The winner must agree to allow use of their name, address, photo & video for publicity without compensation.  Winner will be contacted by phone or email that is provided on entry and will be announced on the Buffalo News Facebook page. Chances of winning will be determined by the total number of entries received.  The prizes will be awarded only to those entrants whose name appears on the official online entry form.

     

  5. NOTIFYING THE WINNING ENTRANTS: The winner will be notified during regular business hours by using the phone or email address listed on their entry form. If winner cannot be contacted after 3 attempts by phone or who fail to respond within 48 hours of an email notifying them of their selection, will be disqualified, their prize forfeited,  and the selection of a substitute winner from remaining eligible entries. Winner must claim prize at The Buffalo News at One News Plaza located at the corner of Washington & Scott Sts, downtown Buffalo, NY within five business days of notification and must provide valid photo identification and proof of residence. Some restrictions may apply. 

     

  6. HOW TO ENTER: Contest must be entered at www.facebook.com/thebuffalonews.  Entrants must like the Buffalo News on Facebook prior to entering.

     

     

    6.     GENERAL RELEASE AND DISCLAIMERS: By entering the contest, entrants release DeSanto Travel /The Buffalo News/Holiday Valley, participating advertisers, any other promotional sponsors, and each of their respective affiliated companies, directors, officers, employers, representatives, partners and agents from any liability whatsoever for any claims, costs,  losses or damages of any kind arising out of or in connection with their participation in the contest, or from acceptance, possession or use of any prize. Buffalo News/DeSanto Travel/Holiday Valley, associated sponsors, their agencies, their assignees, and licensees are not responsible for any events, conditions or occurrences relating to this contest that are outside their immediate control and that may impact, directly or indirectly, an entrants’ participation or eligibility or chances of winning.

                     

  7. SPONSORS & CONTEST ORGANIZERS: The decisions of the contest organizers The Buffalo News, are final on all matters of fact, interpretation, eligibility, procedure and fulfillment.   The Buffalo News are not responsible for typographical, printing or other inadvertent errors in these official rules or in materials relating to the contest.

     

  8. MISCELLANEOUS: This contest is subject to all federal, state and local regulations and is void where restricted or prohibited by law.  All taxes, title, registrations, releases and insurance owed in connection with any prize will be the sole responsibility of the prize winners.  For prizes with a value of $600 or more, a W-9 form must be completed before the prize package can be released.  Winner may be required to complete and sign an affidavit of eligibility, a release of liability and/or a publicity release after notification of winning. Such forms must be returned within 24 hours after being provided to the winning entrant. Failure to complete, sign and return the affidavit or releases within a 24 hour period or to comply with any term or condition of these official rules may result in such winner’s disqualification, the forfeiture of his/her interest in the prizes, and the award of the prizes to an alternate winner.  The Buffalo News and this contests’ sponsors reserve the right, in their  sole discretion to cancel, terminate, or suspend this contest should viruses, bugs, unauthorized human intervention or other causes beyond their control corrupt or impair the administration, security, fairness, or proper play of the contest. In such event, the winner will be selected from all eligible entries submitted and received up to the time of such cancellation, termination or suspension.

     

  9. ENTRANT’S ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: By entering this contest, you acknowledge that you have read and accept these rules and agree to be bound by them.
